MG MGA - directional change by acceleration-deceleration

Hello everyone. I hope they continue in good health. Here we begin to be able to go out and, therefore, to be able to use our classics. I have observed abnormal or erratic steering behavior of my MGA consisting of tilting the steering to the left when accelerating and to the right when decelerating, which is more noticeable how much higher the speed is and forces me to correct from the steering wheel. The only thing I have changed in the car is to renew the front suspension with new springs and put a height reduction kit in the rear. Everything seems to be well installed, so I ask for your opinion. Has something similar happened to anyone?. What can be the cause?.
Gabriel Martínez

I recall something similar years ago after just purchasing my car. It turned out to be loose u bolts clamping the rear axle to the springs. When torqued up on acceleration it slightly twisted the steering direction one way (can’t remember which way) and the opposite when decelerating. Bob West’s guys put me on to it. Just needed tightening up! Maybe as a result of your rear end work?
Good luck.
Bruce.

Have you had the front wheel alignment checked -and the U bolts at the rear axle need to be checked
Dominic Clancy

Did you tighten the fixings with the car on the ground taking its own weight.

Sounds like loose RH side U bolts from here
Or if you have just done lowering blocks did you refit the rubber pads and their tin plates in the correct positions and were the holes/pins on the lowering blocks the correct size to fit the centrebolt etc
Did your blocks have the little holes/pins to fit between the spring and rubber or the larger ones to go between the pad and the axle housing--------
William Revit

Gabriel, definitely your rear axle U bolts are loose. Been there.

Thank you all very much, I remember tightening them well but I am going to do it again with the car on the ground and if this does not work I will look at the alignment. I'll tell you when I can do it and test the car.

You might be better to get the car in the air again and loosen the fixings a bit and then tighten fully with the car on the ground.
Nigel Atkins

Fixed, the leaf spring clamping nuts were loose, although I left them tight in the mount. He should have reviewed them after the first outing. Thank you all.
