MG MGA - Ebay Speedometer

Bought a speedometer from Belgium on ebay, sounded fine and it being replaced for a kph one sounded plausible. I tried it in the car, by the time I got down the drive and onto the road I knew something was wrong. It was seized and the drive cable had sheared, I have now replaced the cable and opened up the speedometer. I have managed to free the spindle and the two small shafts with gear wheels and eccentric to move the pawls that change the mileage reading. One of these gear wheels however has several teeth missing, I think it’s made of fibre and is 25 teeth. The local MG garage said they were plastic and coloured depending on the number of teeth, he only had white and red which were 20 and 32 teeth. So I am looking for a supplier of these gear wheels 25 teeth, garage gave the impression they could be quite rare, like hens teeth.
I have attached a pic of the good small shaft and gear, the shaft is turned down in the middle and from the crud in it and on the shaft it has been lubricated, by something that has gone hard. All the info I have read seems to like dry and clean not lubricated, the undercut would be just to reduce area of contact and friction. Advise on dry verses lubricated would be helpful also.

You could try giving John Ostick a call. He refurbished my speedo and gave a really good service. I think he is a one man outfit so maybe worth a chat?

Ross, I too have used John Ostick for both speedo (odometer was broken) and tachometer repairs and he did a good job on both. Not cheap but fixed price, so you know at the outset what you are going to pay, and very efficient.

I know Dave Hodgson has some of these as I spoke to him on the phone today. They are plentiful as the MGA gear is quite a standard one. He's fixing my speedo at the moment.

Hi guys thanks for suggestions. tried phoning David, he was away all that day. So I emailed both David and John, had a reply from John in about 12 hours,exchanged a couple of emails, details and info. Just had post from John this morning, Saturday, with a replacement, excelent service and most helpfull. Still awaiting a reply from David, maybe his computer is broken.
