MG MGA - Fender piping
Looking at the fender piping from Scarborough Faire. The car is now BR green, so I am thinking the black piping. The carpets will be black and the seats tan leather. Is this a good choice , colour and supplier? |

Standard silver is the go - I used the Moss stuff

I agree go standard silver. I got my from Bob West seems to be a superior product. |

Definitely Bob Wests is the best....made especially for him in Germany I believe. |
Gary Lock |
Gary, how is Bob West's different? - do you have a picture of the cross-section? |

I bought some from Moss-Europe earlier this year and sent it straight back! Horrible soft flimsy stuff. That said, Mike, you have done a great job of installing and it looks perfect, better than most I have seen, correct profile or not! I suspect that was due to your skill and care more than the product, but it does prove that it is possible to get great results with the Moss profile. Unless you got that from Moss Motors and like some other parts Moss Motors supplies good products whereas Moss Europe continues to supply known rubbish (e.g. axle check straps) |

Thanks for the photo Mike. Silver it will be! |

I have black piping on my OEW MGA and on my gray TF. A great many compliments on the job. What I used come from Metro Rubber; very easy to use and lies well.

I also did my Coupe with the same stuff (photo doesn't show piping very well but ended up as good a job as the roadster) - Moss Motors US not Moss Europe supply - not sure if it is different quality. At $US25 for a whole car it is pretty cheap and a relatively easy job - just follow the MGAguru instructions and see my comments about tools to make easier. A mate of mine reckons using a pnuematic nut runner makes the job so much easier than using a socket and ratchet! http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/body/bd115.htm http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/body/bd115a.htm Mike ![]() |

Bobs stuff is shown on the comparison photo at the bottom of the page referenced by Barney. the Moss stuff available at the same time is the one with the red cross. Bob had to order about 13km of the stuff, so I suspect he has done deals to sell to other suppliers since that photo was made. I would ask for a sample before buying from anyone other than Bob |

I like the looks of the T series piping. It is wider and I think it looks better. You can get it is a lot of different colors. It is more expensive but I like the looks. |

I always think that an owner was ignorant of what should be on the car when I see anything other than silver piping. Of course on your car you can have flourescent green if you want, but in terms of aethetics I've never seen anything that betters stock. As for the owners that bondo in the joints, there is a place in Hell for them (IIRC, the sixth or seventh circle - the one for heresy, but I'd have to check my Dante to be sure) |
Bill Spohn |
Bill, I don't wish to go to that place, so it will be silver piping! |
