MG MGA - Finally making some progress
Over the last couple of weeks, I've gotten the headliner installed (paid someone to come to my house to install it), I installed the dash skuttle vinyl, the defrost vents, the windscreen washer nozzles and the windscreen. It feels nice to be getting closer to finishing. I know you're never really finished but I'm getting there. Jim ![]() |

Thanks! All 8 pieces of glass in my coupe are original Triplex. The windscreen is the only piece that's not original to my car and it was made within 3 month of the other 7 pieces. I have the original windscreen but it was too scratched to use. Pretty amazing that all of this 60 year old glass has survived. Hope I don't break any of it putting it back in. Jim |

Got one section of the chrome finisher strips installed. PITA to install but looks good. I feel sorry for the guy on the production line that had to do this. Jim ![]() |

Coming along nicely, Jim The WSM describes that the chromed finisher strips were fitted to the rubber after the glass, then the whole assembly installed to the car. That worked for my front screen. For the rear I was concerned that the whole assembly might bend at the positions between the centre and side glass pieces and damage the finishers. I was keen to get the screen in so that I could attend some events, so I put the glasses and rubber into the car without the finishers. Does your ( or anybody elses ) experience suggest that I can fit the trims without removing the rear screen assembly ? Any special techniques or tools ? Or should I take the rear screen out to fit the finishers and then reinstall ? Jim |

Jim Given the scarcity of Coupe rear windows I had a specialist to install front and rear glass. He did it all in an hour and fitted the chrome trims after the windows were in place. Cost, £50. A bargain. He put the trims in with his special tool, a screwdriver with the corners of the blade rounded off. Cheers Dave |

A friend of mine in California has 4 MGA Coupes and I asked him about installing the chrome finisher strips. He said he always installs the glass in the car first and then installs the finisher strips. He says to start at the outside and make sure the corners are in the right position and then work your way to the middle. That's what I did with the first piece I installed and it worked pretty well. Done with the windscreen. Now to get the rear glass and finisher strips in. My son and I will tackle that next week. Jim ![]() |
