MG MGA - front bumper springs

I have tried to bend the springs to fit my new bumper on the car but have somewhat failed. I am now hesitating to carry on distorting the shape so I wish to appeal maybe someone can scan for me an exact outline that I can follow from a new spring to shape afresh.

order a new one (just one is fine), trace it, and return it? It will oost you the shipping.

I can't help - both mine were bent up, and I got them to work, but I won't guarantee that they are correct.

If someoene (other than Moss) had a new spring to spare and could send it to you - hopefully someone close by - that would be the best....

are there any other MGA's in Malta? Ask one of them if they have an extra, or would be willing to take the bumber off (sheesh - that's a real pain, though, isn't it?)

Good luck!

Thanks for your comment however we have a disadvantage over here that the shipping costs are quite expensive. I have asked my usual parts supplier to trace the contours for me and scan it. That way could prove even cheaper. I just hope that that way will work and I can put my front bumper on without too much hassle. Then I can start thinking about putting the car on the road.

As regards MGA s in Malta there are about 12 but very few are regularly used. We have a problem that besides the fact that there is always heavy traffic on our roads it has already become too hot to the extent that you cannot stand the sun.

If anyone does measure or trace the outline of the bumper spring irons (front or rear), I would be happy to post it on my web site.
Barney Gaylord

OK Barney I will definitely post it to you if I shall get the the outline and will keep you posted.

New ones don't necessarily come right. I can't say for sure whether my new Moss brackets (13+ years ago)or the new JC Whitney bumper (25+ years ago) were at fault. They really didn't match together at all. I had a lot of rework to perform. Hopefully the newer Moss brackets are correct, maybe they were back then too.

I don't know if it was the new Moss springs, (new in 2001), or my car but I had to so some creative bending to get my new Moss bumper to fit right.
Ed Bell

I bought new springs and bumper from SF. Everything lined up nicely. Sorry I can't help in that they are already installed.

Ahh - we could do with a bit of that here right now - raining for the 3rd day in a row.
I have spot light brackets to fit to my car and I am not looking forward to removing the front bumpers - good luck with yours.
