MG MGA - Front end bounce

I replaced my front shocks with rebuilt units about 2K miles ago ( about a season of use for me). The front suspension has developed a 'porpoising' after running over dips or bumps in the road as though the front shocks are shot. I see no leakage telltales from the shocks. They seemed to work great until early this season. Can I just top up with shock oil and see what happens? any other suggestions?

Check the oil level and any leaks. if there is the correct oil level, there should be no bounce.

Iirc there are internal valves which can fail if for example you put too heavy an oil inside for example... yours might have failed?

I had experience a few years ago ,with an MGB, of fitting recon shocks only to find they "went" after only 18 months ( outside the 1 year guarantee.) It seems some traders idea of a recon is to change the oil and paint them.
Cam Cunningham

Mine leaked within a year of a recon. I had new ones from WWAP and they seem to understand the word...RECONDITIONED.....much better than other companies. Lookup their website and see what they do to recon your shocks. Then ask the other company what they did. You might be surprised.

X2 the work done by Peter Caldwell at World Wide Auto Parts. His shocks are literally better than new when he's done with them. He rebores the shaft bushing area and installs delrin bushings and then installs a thin stainless steel sleeve on the seal area of the shaft and a true lip type seal in place of the original packing material. All internal parts are cleaned and replaced as needed and the shock comes prefilled with oil ready to install. Not reconditioned, but basically rebuilt to a better standard than original. I had these signs made for my car when I autocross to show my support for his products.

these are WWAP remanufactured shocks, due to my research on this (and other) forums prior to purchase.

thx

Rick, I was just alerted by a poster here of your problem. If you would contact me at my email address I can probably help. We DO have a warranty. If the issue is lack of oil, we did have some units with incorrectly sized oil seals, and have rectified most of them. If yours are not leaking, then I want to know what's wrong.

Either way, you'll have replacement shocks, but you need to contact me, as you don't have an email in your signature.

At least out here, we have a few more glorious Fall weeks ahead.

Thanks, Peter...I will contact you at the nosimport email address

Cheers,

Rick
