MG MGA - Fuel gauge sender unit

There is a fuel gauge sender unit which I would like to purchase on eBay offered by 9508mar and item no 130755508947 but seller does not ship worldwide. Does anyone have any suggestion how to get this item since I live in Malta.

You need a US based buyer

Thank you Dominic . I wish someone from the states would offer to buy it for me as I cannot make contact with the seller.

You can buy from Moss.

C.V., -- Sorry I got your message a little late, after the auction was closed.

About a year ago Moss sent me one of their new and improved fuel sender units for my evaluation. At first glance it looks like a quality piece with good mounting dimensions and good clean electrical signal. On closer inspection it turned out to have the wrong range of mechanical motion (which might be fixable by re-forming the wire arm. It is also bothered by the wrong range of electrical resistance, which may or may mot be accommodated by recalibrating the fuel gauge to non-standard settings. If you knew what you were doing it might take half a day to get it to read out in some serviceable manner by bending the float arm and recalibrating the fuel gauge. If you don't understand how it works you might spend a week screwing with it and only end up screwing it up. I wrote a full report on it for Moss last fall, but haven't heard another word about it since. For details see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/fg115.htm

If you get a replacement sending unit from anyone, new or used, the first thing you should do is connect an ohm meter and run it through its full range of motion. It should read 0-ohms when empty (lowest arm position), 70-ohms when full (highest arm position), and roughly linear in between. Also check the range of mechanical motion as in the graphic image notes above.

If anyone might find a new replacement sender unit with the correct operating parameters, I would truly like to know, as I haven't seen on in the past 25 years. You can find instructions on my web site to re-wind the signal bobbin on an original sender unit. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et214.htm

Thanks a lot Barney for info. In fact I have already managed to fix the unit and worked properly after I replaced the thin brass wire that goes round the shaft of the float but then for some other reason it has failed to work and as a result do not feel like going through the hassle again. For this reason I wish to buy an original which would work well. I am presently betting on another sender unit on eBay and which auction ends in 6 days time.
I also appreciate very much your interest.
