MG MGA - Furflex door seal

Hi folks. Does anyone know if MGB furflex door seals are the same as MGA furflex seals. I am specifically wondering if the cross sections of the 2 seals are the same, and whether the MGB furflex, cut to the proper length, would work ok on an MGA. Thanks, Glenn

Hi Glenn this is the only supply of correct door seals for the A that I know

Moss Motors is now selling the Clarke door seals. Difference is they come fully assembled from Clarke, but come in pieces from Moss so you have to assemble the seal into the fuzzy cover with Tinnerman type clips. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/interior/int108b.htm

Note that front and back of door opening have two layers of sheet metal on the flange while bottom along the sill has three layers. The seal will accommodate two or three layers of metal, but has a tough time expanding to fit over more layers. The sheet metal is 18-ga, 0.048-inch thick, so four layers would be more than 3/16-inch thickness. If you are repairing body sills it is well advised to remove unused layers of metal before installing new rocker panels.

So Gordon, are you saying the ones available in England e.g. Brown & Gammons are not correct?
Nigel Munford

Hi Nigel, don't think I've seen the ones they supply, the only ones I've seen are the ones supplied by Clarke, the ones from Moss, Woolies are not right

I bought mine from MacGregor British Car Parts When I was at MG2006. They are the same as MGB but shorter. They work great and I have had NO problems. They are in Canada and their web site is www.macgregorukcarparts.com Give thenm a try.

Nigel, I believe Bob West supplies the correct type here in the UK.

Hi all this is a pic of the ones on my car which are the original and getting a bit thread bare you can see the flap of rubber, the ones sold here by Moss etc are very different in design and make the doors too tight on the seals even more so on the coupe, last time I spoke to Bob West he just the normal type

Hi Folks, I appreciate the comments and info, but it seems that no one has actually answered my question. Basically, I am wondering if MGB furflex and MGA furflex door seals are identical or similar in cross section. The reason I ask is that I have a chance to purchase some furflex at a reasonable price, but it is for an MGB, I dont know if it is suitable for use on an MGA. Any info would really be appreciated. Perhaps this info isnt readily available? Anyway, thanks, Glenn

Glenn, I have some of Todd Clarke's seal as yet unfitted so if you can get hold of a short piece of your MGB seal we could compare the dimensions. According to TC the same MGA seal was also used on the Jaguar XK150,Mk.7,8 & 9; MG Magnette ZA/ZB and other BMC saloons. Mike

Glenn, Here are two more images to add to Jim's picture. Todd Clarke supplied me with two lengths of seal for the car (roadster) each 67" long. Let me know if you need any more measurements. Mike

If you want to get a picture of B seals, you are probably better off posting on the B board, and then comparing with the pictures posted here
