MG MGA - Gas tank filler
Does anyone have a good picture of the filler pipe and gasket positions? I am trying to install from boxes of parts. Thanks, Harley |

Harley, here's a photo of mine. From my recollection it's easier to install the rubber gasket and trim ring while the tank is still loose and not fully tightened on the holding straps or else you might have a job getting the trim ring over the tank filler pipe. Andy 60 Coupe ![]() |

Thanks Andy. It looks like the rubber tapered conical shaped gasket goes on top of the car body? That was my main area of concern. Harley |

There is an O-ring gasket also for the filler tube. Does it go in the goove below the cap? Thanks, HJ |

Harley, Position the tapered ring in the hole on the body. Slide the fuel filler into the ring and into the connector hose. You could alternately slide the tapered ring up the filler. The lip on the filler should be flush to the tapered ring. Twist the filler to get every thing aligned then tighten the clamp on the connector hose to hold everything in place. Cheers, Gerry |

I glue the flat oval rubber gasket to the flat oval metal piece first then put it on after tank is in place. The tank is a big enough pain without another factor to deal with. The seal at the top was cork. The conical shaped piece is just to protect the paint from the tube and goes on the tube before it is pushed down through the hole. You can see the cork cap seal in this picture.

Harley, Make sure that the tapered rubber ring is pushed down tight by the ridge on the outside of the tube. It has to be tight, and a good fit, to prevent rain getting into the boot. I know this because we drove for a whole day in rain, and a lot of stuff in the boot got wet. Had to drain the boot by parking on a slope that night! Peter. |
