MG MGA - Gauges
Hi All Im trying to find out if my gauges should be Smiths or Jaeger. Its a 1958 Coupe No 49590. The Speedo and Rev counter are Jaeger, But the Oil/Water and fuel are Smiths. I suspect the Speedo/Rev are correct,And the others where replaced at sometime.I dont seem to be able to find any reference to which they should be. Also looking for a company in the UK to refurb them any recommendations would be welcomed Thanks |

All MGA gauges are Jaegar. The fuel gauge is FG.2530/25 on early cars but later cars had FG.2530/05. The numbering is in the 12-0-clock position on my gauge. My car is 55600 and has the latter gauge but I cannot be sure if it is the original. The water temperature gauge, similarly, was GD.1501/00 and later GD.1501/01. Again, mine has the later number in the 12-0-clock position. It's all contained in Clausager's Original MGA. Worth getting a copy. They are back in print for about £25. Hope this helps Steve |

I wouldn't bother refurbing the smiths gauges, unless you change the face (that service is offered, but see if you have the cut outs for the exterior bulb) Of course if you are not bothered about originality... I refurb my own so no recommendations there... |

The SMith's numbers are correct, they made the Jaeger gauges too. |

Thanks for the replies. Im taking the chassis to Bob west in the next week or two to put it on his jig. So will see if he can supply or refurb them. |
