MG MGA - genuine or not
My car is currently up for sale, and I have today received this email from a potential buyer. It seems a strange request and I wonder if it is genuine. What do you think? Hello do you have a valid MOT and V5 ? if yes can you send me a copy of V5 ,so I can verify the enregistration's problem in Italy ? |

Sounds dodgy to me. If it was me I would never send a copy of a legal document to an unknown source. I would think it could lend itself to being used to transfer ownership without your knowledge. Steve |

Nigel, it may be OK. I sold an MGB to a guy in Malta and he needed the V5 to tax the car and import it. I am not sure of the full details, but I scanned it and emailed, but that wasnt good enough for the authorities. He then asked me to post it to him once the car had been paid for and collected. He said not to send it with the car. there was then a delay in the post and it took him ages to 'import' it. Maybe Italy is similar?? Colin |

Thanks both, for your comments. I have replied, confirming that I have an MOT, and up to date and valid V5. I have found that he is a member of The MG experience, by searching his name, so may well be genuine. Tricky. Ill see what he says next. |

Be careful but he might actually be checking up on you to ensure you have the car and can legaLly sell it. Malcolm |

Yes I would be very careful. There are so many scams around. Maybe if he insists, just send a copy with the unique numbers etc, redacted? |
