MG MGA - Good Re-chromer in the US ?

Can anyone recommend a good re-chrome finishing shop in the US . I'm going to have a few pieces of my "A" refinished.
Chris Velardi

I have had Nu-Chrome in Fall River, MA do the chrome on both my TF and the MK II grill on my MGA They are not cheap, but can repair or rebuild, as well as plate, just about anything you can think of. This is their site:

Thanks , I'll check them out . I'll be driving down from Killington to Newport RI this weekend, so I'll swing in and see what they might want to do the work.

Check your local Harley shop for recommendations. Those guys are very particular and find the best. The good stuff is $$$$.

Chris,
I've had chroming done by Paul's Chrome in PA and keystone automotive in MI. Paul's is show quality, but really expensive - $600 for my 1500 grille. Keystone was good quality, but they mostly do bumpers.
I read a lot of classic car bulletin boards on web beforehand and saw quite a few horror stories. Whoever you pick, read some independent opinions first....Denns

I've been happy with Nu-Chrome. MGA & MGTD. Marv

There is a guy up here in Saftsbury VT (Classic Metal Restorations )I might try with some of the smaller pieces if they turn out well I'll give him the windshield frame and grill and bumpers. Anyone one know what the "false nose" on the grill was made of ? I have an original grill set with a brake in the center bar, and a 25 + year old aftermarket (steal set up with a dent in one corner. Anyone have any idea why the bumpers in catalogs are so inexpensive compared to re-plating? Moss lists the front 3 piece as $152 and the rear as $114. I'm assuming even the originals bumpers were chromed steal and not chromed brass.
Chris Velardi

Chris, I think the false nose is also brass.

The reason the new bumpers are so cheap is that they are thinner steel with very poor chroming. The chrome shows imperfections in the steel from new and is prone to rusting through and blisters/peeling. If kept polished and dry it looks good from a few yards for a few years.

Definitely brass, Chris. Mine is wearing very nicely, as chromed brass should - getting the patina of age rather than breaking out in teenage spots.
