MG MGA - GPS Speedometer

Has anyone put GPS speedo internals in an MGA speedo case? While there are plenty of 85 mm dial GPS speedos out there you don't see many 4" circular units.
The accuracy of GPS speedos like the Jaycar unit are great but it would be good to eliminate an extra device in the car.

You would have an easier job starting with something like this

Hi Dominic, that link took me to gps trackers - gps speedometers come with trackers. I am more interested in hearing from people who have install the gps speedometer output in a regular MGA speedometer casing.

Mike, Speedhut in the USA do 4" GPS speedos, plus all other guages. You also have a chance to customise them to your own layout.

Hi Mike, I just use the Jaycar speedo you've shown, no wiring required so it swaps easily between cars. It is hard to read in direct sunlight. Others in the club have fitted the Speedhut units as Gary has suggested, they had custom black gauge faces fitted and also replaced the tacho so both large gauges matched.

Hi Mike
Very strange because I get these. With a bit of fettling should be fairly easy to transplant into a MGA casing.

It's too bad these guys have stopped production.

I just missed buying one before they stopped production. I know of one other user who says it works brilliantly. Keeping the original speedo is great.

Hopefullu someone will buy the IP and resume production but with the current economic climate I'm not sure.

Hi Mike,I'm not sure what the rego requirements are in Vic. but in NSW you can't rego a car only fitted with a G.P.S. speedo, the reason being that they don't work in tunnels, under cover car parks or similar places where the signal could be blocked. That's why a member of our club was knocked back at a blue slip inspection on his car. Others in the club have them fitted so it would depend upon the inspector recognising it as a GPS speedo.

Speedhut makes 4" GPS speedos. I haven't tried to fit one into a stock case but I expect that it is probably not that hard.

I had them do a special one for my MGA Jamaican.
