MG MGA - Half shaft oil leak

Im sorry if i seem to be asking a lot of questions latley but as im going through the car overhauling the hoses and flexi pipes things keep poping up,this time while I was attempting to bleed the brake and cluth system I noticed that a half shaft was leaking oil,the problem is that I have only recently replaced the half shaft oil seals after noticing a leak on the same one,if I have cought or nipped thr seal while I was replacing the half shaft I can understand the leak but I dont think I did, I wonder if anyone has had the same sort of problem and could it be a problem with the half shaft, also if it is,what can I do, thank you, Vin

Check the surfaces on the axle housing that the oil seal lip runs on. If it is worn it will be time for Speedi-Sleeve. Barney has the details.

It cured my oil leak after I had messed around for ages with new seals and gaskets.

Hi Malcolm. I was about to do the same repair this weekend on my car which seems to have surreptitiously dropped a lot of oil past the rear axel seal onto the rear wheel. I changed my tyres last week and had to clean off a large amount of congieled oil that had not been there in summer.
Barnwell in the UK supply such shaft seal repair sets.

Vin,

I got mine from Brammer (was BSL). They didn't have them at the depot I went to (Stockport) but got them in 24 hours. They recognised the Federal Mogul number 99193. Can't remember the cost but it was around £15-£20 by memory and it is wise to fit a new oil seal while you are at it.

The hardest bit is removing the flange.

It fixed the problem instantly.

A couple of years ago I overhauled my diff and took the opportunity to replace a leaking oil seal on the passenger side - no problem new seal and no leaks to date. About six months later the driver's side started to leak. I have replaced it twice since then and it is still leaking. I plan to redo with a speedie sleeve /new bearing / seal and gasket this week! The local bearing supply shop had the Federal Mogul 99193 in stock (actually I bought it last seal change but thought the seal land looked good enough so I did not use it - to my regret).
