MG MGA - Heater air intake for crossflow head

Have a 1600 with crossflow head, The heater intake tube ran right next to the carb filters so I diverted it across the rocker cover onto the connection on the LH side of the grill. Its not too happy, a bit hot & squashed. Any ideas of a substitute tubing? If I could get a twincam heater box which has the intake on the other side this would ge great but no-one seems to sell them.
H L Davy

Never really thought about it before, but looking at my box I note that the motor attachment hole and pipe duct hole, plus bolt holes look the same. Can the box be rotated? Weld up the water pipe holes on one side and drill new ones on the other. Probably not that simple, but may be worth the discussion.

I used a Triumph Herald heater box for my cross flow heater installation. The holes etc are reversed.

Steve, I was thinking along the same lines. The defroster holes would have to be reversed and the fan motor/intake tube would have to be swaped too. Perhaps it would be easier starting with a MGB heater and reconfiguring the intake tube.

Either way, if the fab skills are there, go fo it.

This is based on my my poor memory banks and web photos, I've not actually done this.

More great replies. I love this site. Being lazy I am intrigued by Mark's answer.

H L Davy says that a Twin Cam heater would suit his crossflow cylinder head. However, while the Twin Cam heater does have the air intake on the opposite side, it is fitted in a different position on the firewall shelf. The hole in the body for the heater needs to be in a different location.
This is described on Barney's website.

Hi Mick,

The heater still fits in the pushrod MGA when reversed.
