MG MGA - Heater Fan switch Wiring ?

Can anyone help here.

Should the heat fan wires be soldered directly to the switch shown in the photo
or
Should there be short cables with bullet connecters on each wire

Also what colour wires run to this switch. One looks like black earth.

Many Thanks
Mark

Mine are soldered and look pretty original. The book shows that one should be green and the other green with brown. But those colours (numbers 17 and 23) are shown at the other side of the adjacent bullet connectors.

That said, one of my cables is black at the switch and the other is red and black! Very strange.

Just had another look. My wiring colours on the other side of the bullets are as published. The 2 wires to the switch are about 6 to 8 inches long. The one that I said was black looks like it was a red cable that has been over-painted (or discoloured due to heat over time) as it changes from black to red down its 6 inch length - black at the switch!

See switch with wires picture here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/heater/pics/ht_control.jpg
This might be a reproduction switch. The wires have crimped terminals riveted on the switch, no solder. This is a two wire continuity switch, so the switch wires are interchangeable, and colors do not matter (commonly both black). It has pigtails about six inches long with bullet connectors. One connecting wire in the dash harness is Green (from the switched fuse via the petrol gauge "B" terminal). The other connecting wire in the main harness is Green with a browN stripe (GN).
See dash wiring physical diagram here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et100b.htm

When there is no heater in the car (no switch), then put female snap connectors on the harness wires to prevent the bullet ends from contacting anything.

Perfect, Thanks Guys

I do notice from Barney's photo, it appears two wires enter the cable tidy clip and only one wire appears to leave though.

I don't recall a spare wire running from the fuel guage, so perhaps my new harness did not come with this wire. Easily made.

Cheers

They're both there, one just hiding behind the other. See larger picture attached.
