MG MGA - Heater Valve

I was at a car show this past weekend and saw this interesting heater valve setup. The cars owner had been having trouble with the Moss valve and made this setup using a ball valve. Says he's never a problem since. The piece in the block is part of a stock water valve that was cut off and tapped to accept the right angle that screws into the ball valve.
