MG MGA - Help - Number plates? - UK Only

Hi guys,

Foolishly I contacted the DVLA, who sent me to the British Standards Institute, who sent me to the DVLA.........

Anyway, what I'm after is the answers to the following questions:

1) Front plate - are stick-on plates ok, e.g. on the bonnet?

2) Rear plate - are stick on plates ok, e.g. on the boot?

3) Rear plate - does it need to be lit and a number plate light fitted?

I'm just interested as I like the look of the sticker type plates, and also it saves the money / hassle of all the mounting brakets.

Cheers,

Grant :-)

These seem to be the regulations:

I have had a quick browse through and I believe you can stick them to the body work. LBL301 has them stuck on and is UK registered.

Steve,

thanks for the link. Looks like I will have to have a light, but stickers do seem to be ok.

Many thanks,

Here is my front plate, I had thought about on the bonnet but thought this position was more "vertical"

I have attached a photo of "stick on" numbers taken many years ago when I lived in the State of South Australia. I later moved to the State of New South Wales where they required conventional fitted plates.

Robert,

What did you use to replace the bumpers ? Did you do the same in the rear ?

The police don't seem to know the law regarding number plates any more than we do judging by the number of illegal plates around - either that or they don't want all the hassle of paper work - they only book you if you have committed another offence as well.MOT garage may also cause a problem unless you know them well.
I have seen a number of stick on plates on classic cars at shows - but they should as near vertical as possible.
