MG MGA - Hood mounting points

Does anybody have any clear closeup photos of the hood from mounting area from the inside of the body. Just bought what I thought was good car but mount holes in wrong place. He did put in a thick plate but it does not extend to where the holes should be. I need to open up the back and weld in a new plate. I had a look on MGA Guru but not detailed enough.

Thanks

The three mounting holes in the body (with caged nuts behind) are in a vertical line with spacing between the top holes of 2.25" and the bottom two are 1" apart. The top hole (centre) is 1.5" from the top ledge of the body on which the aluminium cockpit trim piece rests and the vertical line is 1.875" from the outer vertical edge of the door seal flange...................Mike

Thanks Mike, but I need to work out how to cut into panel to put a new piece of thick steel in. I presume I have to remove the rear wing, but then what?
B W Wood

I don't think you need to remove the wing. I welded in my plates just by cutting in from inside. I made up a plate from 1/4 x 1 inch flat bar and drilled and tapped per Mikes dimensions. I welded this to a piece of 18g sheet a bit bigger all round, scribed around this on the pillar, cut out with a dremel toolfor a close fit and butt-welded the piece in.

In fact removing the wing doesn't help unless you intend to cut the B-pillar. That might be the normal procedure during a resto. The easiest way might be to cut a large hole in the body fro the inside, avoiding the B-pillar edges and weld a replacement piece in with captive fasteners or captive tapped plate already attached.

Thats what I did Neil. The cut out was from inside, on the body panel that the B pillar is fixed to.

Thanks Guys,
Having bought this car complete I have no experience of its internals, I am mainly a TD/TF man. There is a taped plate in there but in the wrong place, by Barney's measurement. it is not behind were I need to drill the correct holes, but I don't know how big it is. I guess I will just have to cut along side it and weld another piece in.

Do you have the hood frame and top? And if so, does it all fit?
Art Pearse

Art,
I bought a complete car minus side screens, when I purchased a new set they did not fit as the windscreen angle was wrong, standtions were straight not curved forward. In fixing that I broke the windshield. With the new screen and all back together the hood did not reach, about an 1" short. Bought a new hood. after stripping the old hood off I had a look at the frame, the mounting brackets were not in good condition. Bought a new set of brackets and the repair piece with captive nuts. Found the old bracket had their holes enlarged and the PO had used studs with chrome dome nuts instead of countersunk, so frame always fouled when trying to raise or lower. The body had a taped piece of steel inserted when it had been restored, but the holes were drilled in the wrong place according to Barney's measurement. Drilled a pilot hole when one of the holes should be and no steel behind panel. I need to get the new mounting brackets on to the hood frame and cut into the body to either fit the repair panels or a new steel piece to drill and tap.
And so it goes on---
