MG MGA - Horn connections

Hi,
Just a simple question please. I was playing around with the horn connections as it was not working (turned out to be faulty fuse). I disconnected the live feed at the horn and it seems to me that it would be very easy for that connection to become earthed against the horn body. Maybe just some water off the road would be sufficient to blow the fuse. I imagine there should be some form of proper insulation between the permanent live feed and the body of the horn. Mine has none. I just have a long screw attaching the live feed to the horn, with about six or seven washers on the screw to take up the slack. That certainly cant be right.
Thanks

Huh? Need a picture of your horn. Original Windtone horn had a dome cover secured with one screw. Two wires go through a rubber grommet at one side to connect inside the dome. The body of the horn is NOT grounded as any part of the electrical circuit. Hot wire goes in, and the signal wire comes back the horn push button which is grounded. Not much chance of the power wire getting shorted out. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/circ_fd.htm

Thanks for the help. I have attached a photo. The terminal at the top of the picture is the live feed. It looks a little precarious to me.

Graham, Attached is a picture of one my horns.

The two wires (brown/green & brown/black) are inside the 8mm pvc tubing which goes through the 1/2"/5/16" grommet fitted to the domed cover.

If you have removed your horn it might be worth checking inside the cover because I found that the removable V-shaped bracket into which the cover screws at the top is very close (about 2mm) to shorting out one terminal so I wrapped a couple of turns of insulation tape around the bracket near the danger area.

I also thought it worth adding a rubber washer to the 3 BA cover screws to keep the insides dry. The diaphragm appears to be bare steel and if this gets rusty the life of the horn will be shortened. The horns get a lot of bad weather in the position they are in........................Mike

Graham , You don't appear to have a Lucas Windtone horn there; the original horn was a WT618.
You may have one of the later flat type horns......Mike

Thanks Mike. The body of the horn is earthed, and so I think its obvious I need to change it for a new one. The two terminals are too close to earthing for comfort, especially as you say, in such an exposed area.
