MG MGA - Improved bonnet prop

After spending time working on the choke control I thought I'd post a photo of the bonnet prop modification I use that lifts the bonnet considerably higher - see photo. (I didn't invent this but it from Gary Lock up Queensland way). I wouldn't recommend it on a windy day outside but under normal conditions it's great and easily reversible.

10 mm rubber stops from your local hardware shop.

Mike
Do you have to remove it to shut the bonnet?
Here's mine. It's a bit of old 1.5 inch waste pipe, but opens the bonnet very high and (at least so far) nice and sturdy.

Plus the secret safety device, for stabilising the bottom end in the bonnet catch hole.

No Graham you just move the prop end anywhere along the scuttle gutter to set what height you want - it can go higher than what is shown or you can move to opposite the hole in the fan guard so it is the same height as the standard prop fixing. You don't need to remove the rubber stopper, the prop just folds up like the standard prop. The only time I would recommend removing is in windy conditions outside where you want the prop end to lock into the hole in the fan guard plate attached to the radiator header tank.

I put a rubber grommet on the end of the stay and use the normal locating hole. Saves a bit of paint chipping.
