MG MGA - installing 560-15 tires on B rims?
Gentalmen, I have four Firestone "wide" whitewall tires and the only extra rims I have are 60 spoked B rims with 16 inch on them now. I would like to use them as a spare set to put on my 1956 MGA currently with 15 inch blackwalls on Dupont 60 spoked chrome rims. Would anyone know if 15 inch will work on 16 inch rims? Tom |

15 inch tyres on 16 inch rims? Definitely not! Are you sure the rims are 16 inch? MGB rims are 14 inch, 15 for MGC but 72 spokes. Maybe you can post the tyre size on that rim to be sure. |

I'm sorry but I was wrong. The tires on the MGB 60 spoked rims are 175 SR14s and one Kelly 165 SR14. My wide white walls are Firestone 5.60 15s. Will the wide white walls work on the MGB rims? Tom |

Tom. What are you trying to say--in an integrated manner? The MGB wire wheels will fit onto an MGA hub and MGA wire wheels will fit onto an MGB hub. However, the external diameter of the MGA wheel is 15" and requires tires having an internal hole of 15". The MGB wheels have an external diameter of 14" and require the use of tires having a 14" center hole. Thus, a tire of a size such as 5.60-15 would fit onto a 15" rim, such as used on the MGA, et al, but could not be put onto a 14" rim such as that used on the MGB. And, a 175-14 tire could be fitted to the 14" MGB rim but would not fit onto a larger wheel. However, the "Dupont 60 spoked chrome rims" are worth keeping due to the fact that they would have been hand made by the I.E. DuPont company which specialized in chemicals such as paints and explosives. Must be much more valuable than the more common Dunlop and Dayton products. Les |

Nope. 15 inch tires won't go on 14 inch rims. |

Absoultely not. You cannot swap a tire for one diameter rim onto another diameter rim. The "14" in the "SR14" means 14" diameter rims. The "15" in the Firestone white walls means 15" diamenter. Sorry Tom. |

Tom - I think that a more important question is how old are those Firestone 5.60-15 whitewalls? If they are as old as I think that they are, they shouldn't be used for anything but display. Cheers - Dave |
