MG MGA - Leaf spring rebuild
Hi. Has anyone rebuilt their springs using the leaf spring liner from Speedway (http://speedwaymotors.com/Leaf-Spring-Liner-with-Lip-1-3-4-Inch,2079.html) & if so was there much improvement in the ride properties? And were there any other issues with installing them? Chris. |

I have installed the liner, but the car isn't on the road yet. I did have a problem with sides of the liner Wrinkling, but I use of a heat gun and it solved this problem. 20 feet is JUST enough. So don't waste any. Bill |

Hi Bill, how is this liner installed? Do the springs have to be removed from the car and stripped down, to be able to install it? Can you post a pic with the liner in place. Thanks. Frank |

Hi Bill, Thanks for this. Any issues with re-assembling the springs - c clamps etc? And Frank, Yes its a strip down job. Chris. |

I have a 1956 MGA and I have rebuilt my springs but did not install any liner between them. The springs are not had to take apart. Undo the center bolt and then user a pry bar to pry up the bent tab then used a pipe wrench to bend them back. I then removed all the crusty rust with HD Wire Wheel.. then put into glass bead cabinet.. then treated with Eastwood Rust Converter. Re-assembled and then painted. Installed all new Poly bushing and she is ready to go back on car. only caution is make sure you put the springs back together correct as one side is longer than the other. |

Another think to do is to radius the spring ends to prevent them grinding into the adjacent leaves. You will see the marks when you disassemble. |

Agree.. I ground all the sharp radius off so they did not wear anymore against the adjacent springs. Also used a Wheel Cyl Hone where the bushings get reinstalled to clean all the rust from inside.. Thanks Art .. |
