MG MGA - Leak at carbs

I have a petrol leak at what I think is called the banjo joint, where the fuel line goes into the float chamber.
Strangely enough both had a steady drip on idle, but possibly that may be because I had been trying to adjust mixture which I found incredibly difficult (I think my hands are too big - is there a trick?)and possibly was a bit heavy handed.
Anyway tightened both banjo bolts. Back one now seems OK but other one still has a small leak. I am guessing I just need new washer but just wanted to check it is not likely to be anything more sinister.

The arm that connects the bottom of float chamber to the carb is also just a little loose but cannot get to that bolt for love or money. Again is there a trick please?
Thanks

Graham,
When I had a similar leak at one of the Banjos I tightened it up as hard as I could but it still leaked. Took the car to Bob West and he produced a ring spanner about 18inches long and tightened the banjo "properly".
Terrified me to watch it but it worked.
WRT the bottom bolt on the float chamber I think you just need a 3/8 or even 1/4 drive ratchet and socket to get at it but they are "rubber" washers (not fibre) and may well need replacing if the leak doesn't stop.

David,
You're a star. You gave me the confidence to put some serious pressure on it and its done the job. No leak. Thanks.

You saved me 50p for a washer plus probably about 10 hours time and completely cut up knuckles! If we ever meet, that equates to a drink!

Appreciate your help

Hi Graham, you shouldn't have to tighten them up to that extreme, it means that the rubber bits and pieces need replacing, if you do get new ones don't get them from Moss get them from Burlen, this quality of the rubber is very different between the two suppliers, I got my first lot from Moss and it still leaked no matter how much I tightened the bolts, , the set I fitted from Burlen were much higher quality, you could tell just from the look and feel, fitted them no more leaks and no overtightening.

I would second Gordon's praise of Burlen for SU parts their quality is outstanding when compared with Moss.
But going back to the fibre washers these have a limited life (as do copper washers) and eventually harden to the point where you may as well use steel. Give your carbs a treat and buy some new ones which shouldn't need an 18" spanner to tighten effectively. Mike

Thanks Gordon & Mike. If I get any more leaks, I will definotely buy new washers.
