MG MGA - Leak from Cylinder Head
Hi Guys, I have a very small pinhole leak coming from above and to the left of number 2 spark plug. Is this the tip of something more serious do you think? Regards Alan |

Alan MGA cylinder head castings can rarely fail. I had one fail on me a very long while ago. From memory it was near a plug and may well have been by no. 2. In theory heads can be welded but it is hit and miss at best and just not worth bothering with. I am afraid the answer is get another head, not too difficult but it isn't urgent so leave it until the winter and enjoy the summer. You are in Hampshire so not far from Andy Jennings who probably would have one, or try this list. Paul |

In the late 60's I had a similar leak, just a tiny crack half way between #2 and #3 spark plugs that would weap a bit under pressure. I put some stop-leak (silver powdered stuff) in the radiator, and it stopped the leak almost immediately. I then flushed the cooling system, and the leak did not reappear. |

Thanks Paul, Barney, Sounds like I can just keep a watch on it and whip the head off in winter for a look see. Paul, you mention a list at the end of your mail where you mention Andy Jennings. Whats the list? Thanks again Alan |

Alan Your summary is correct. By 'list' I meant the people on this chat line. There must be plenty around that some may be willing to part with. Paul |
