MG MGA - Long Heater Fan Motor ?
From the attached photo a friend tells me the motor on the left is not original for MGA's. Does anyone know? Thanks Mark ![]() |

Mark, Mine are similar to the brown (rusty?) one but the mounting (on yours) may be different because mine seem mostly within the heater box (and have a "sqiurrel cage" fan). The heater box is quite near the bulkhead and the motor cannot "stick out" too far? |

Mark Mine is also the same as the rusty one. Steve |

Yes, The rusty (RH) one. At least that's what my 58 and 59 have. Cheers, GTF |

Mark, I it looks like I have the same heater motor. Here are a few pictures, before and after a rebuild. First picture clearly shows a "Smiths" lable on the end of the motor. I have no idea if my heater motor is original for my March, 1959 1500 roadster. John ![]() |

John Yours appears to be the same as the black one shown in the thread opener. The rest of us to date have the same as the rusty one. Steve |

Yep, since rebuilding my heater and fan motor last summer I had been wondering if anyone else had a similar, non-standard motor. Since these particular motors appear to be Smiths parts, I figure that they may have been cannibalized from a different car or were a factory replacement part for a very short period of time. One big advantage of this model motor is that it is quite easy to rebuild. The hardest part was soldering in the tails for the new brushes. This is a picture taken before clean up and replacing the brushes. John ![]() |
