MG MGA - LUCAS sealed beam lamps

My car cme with two sealed beam lamps fitted to it. One of them is a LUCAS sealed beam, made in England. On the back of the lamp is "mazda" which I assume refers to the lamp maker, not the car maker. I have been told that they stopped making these in the nineties.
Does anyoe know where I might get a sealed beam to match this?
Peter.

Hi Peter. they sometimes become available on Ebay. Best of luck! Glenn

They (Lucas sealed beams) are on eBay UK all the time. Generally selling at around about 5 pounds each, available in LHD too (tend to go for slightly more!) I still have a mismatched pair of GE sealed units that came with one of my "projects" from Arizona. I assume the older one to have been the original.

Peter, let me know exactly what you want and I can keep a look out for you. If you post a picture of the lamp it would help.

Thanks Neil. I have included a photo, but it is not great. This has LUCAS in the centre, and a "2" at the top. Molded in the glass along the bottom it has S13 247. On the back it has molded into the glass the following numbers: W15 5W, T 8/4, and 001 35.
The lamp to be purchased obviously has to be for a LHD car, ie, dipping right like a European one would, not a UK lamp.
Let me know if you see one on ebay uk. When I did a search yesterday one came up at US$199 - I don't think so!

I thought that all sealed beam units were more or less the same 7 inch fitted to a whole host of cars and available from all motor parts outlets. Or are these unusual?

I have 2 left hand drive types in my garage doing nothing.
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

Robert, you are absolutely right, but as I understand it Peter wants two matching Lucas units.

Peter, the picture would be very useful so I can see at a glance whether I need to do a more detailed inspection. You should be able to attach it to your post.

The Mazda trademark is one that General Electric used to identify lamps with tungsten filaments. Any manufacturer that produced lamps to their specifications (and under their license) could advertise them as Mazda lamps. GE phased out the trademark after WWII, but many European companies continued to use it much longer. An ad is reproduced here:

Sorry Neil - photo dissappeared into the ether. I'll send it directly to your email address. And yes, I am looking for one more LUCAS sealed beam to go with the one I have, or two matching ones, dipping right.
Bob the height challenged one - are yours LUCAS?
Peter.

That's very interesting. I was always under the impression that MAZDA lamps were large base electric lamps which would not fit a modern lamp base.

Hi, Mike. You're probably thinking of mogul base bulbs. These were used a lot in commercial lighting fixtures before the war, and also in early three-way lamps in the home. I have two mogul type 3-way torchiere lamps in my home which I inherited from my grandparents. These bulbs sell in low volume today and I've seen some at lighting supply stores that may be NOS units drawn from warehouse stock decades old. I bought a few replacement bulbs for an old service station fixture in my yard 20 years ago that still had a blurb on the sleeve about how GE was maintianing the tradition of their founder, Thomas Edison. It looked like it could have been from the 1950s.

As a side issue to this thread, I have a full list of all Lucas bulbs as at 1983: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/LucasBulbs.pdf
