MG MGA - Measurements please!

Does anyone have the measurement of rear fender height? I am rebuilding the bottom 2" and need the dimension "X" in the sketch. Also angle "Y" I assume is 90?

Art Pearse

Art,
I measure a pair of fenders and both are 20 3/8" at the point "x", the point "y" is difficult to measure at this moment, but I will say that is a little bit over 90 (probably around 93) degrees.

I think these are the measurements you should use. 24 5/8 along the edge. and 23 7/8 at the rear. see pictures.
Picture one front edge.

Picture two 23 7/8 at rear.

Measurements were pulled from this bend.
The flange at the bottom is 5/8" wide.

RJ Brown,
I believe Art ask for the height in a straight line not the contour of the fender, any way now he has some references to start or may be he already finished.
R Garcia

Thanks to both of you. I will check both. RJB measurements are independent of the flexing of a loose fender. I have the fender new metal tacked in only, and reason for asking is it is a bit smaller than the other fender, despite replacing the exact amount of sheet I cut out. the real test will be does it meet the bottom sill line correctly - I have not tacked that bit in yet. It will be 8-9/16 below the underside of the body mount.

I measured both fenders they were the same. The overall height can be adjusted through the curvature of the metal at the bottom. The correct length of the metal at those two points will allow it to fit properly. It appears you are using flat sheet to replace only the bottom. That makes it a pretty simple and straightforward job. If using the commonly available "dogleg" repair panels the curvature at the bottom will need to be changed. The radius is too flat on all I have seen. There is a lot of work to fit them properly and an inexperienced (with MGAs) or lazy body man wont get it right.

RJB - My measurements are 24-5/8 and 24, so same as yours on both fenders. I also now have the body metal in and the bottom does match. I did curve the 2" of fresh plate before tacking it in. Not too difficult really and it looks right.
Thanks for the help.
Art Pearse

You are welcome Art, glad to help in any way. I have 4 MGAs. The pictures are from the 60 that is apart just as I bought it 15 years ago. It will remain so until I retire. As such I can take pictures and measurements for any asking.
