MG MGA - MGA Coupe Rear Parcel Shelf

I have given up and run out of places to look,so my apologies to all,for including this parts request here on the BB. I am looking for a location (other than SF) to buy a rear parcel shelf. My Coupe is a 1500 so it requires the deeper unit. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Gordon Harrison

For a second I thought you meant the small shelf on the inside of the rear window glass but I think you mean the removeable metal battery cover.

If you cant find one in Canada you could do worse than contacting Bob West Classic Cars here in Yorkshire UK. I would be suprised if he doesnt have at least a second hand one. I would phone rather than email for a faster response
I have no idea of the cost plus shipping costs involved though.
Let me know if you need any contact info.

Gordon and Colyn, Moss lists two battery covers, if that is what you are after, AFH1663 for the 1500 and 1600 and AFH6866 for the 1600 MKII, there is no mention of a different one for the Coupe, so it is either the same as one of the roadster ones or is different but not available.

Gordon.. If it is the battery cover that you need I may have one. Supply the measurements for the fasteners and I will check against the on that I have.

I believe Gordon is looking for the parcel shelf just below the window. That is the only thing that is either long or short. The 1500 and MKII had the long shelf. The 1600 had the short shelf.

If I remeber correctly, the only difference in battery covers is whether it has the tab on the leading edge or not.

Chuck is right ...I am looking for the rear parcel shelf (not the battery cover). It is just below the rear window on the coupe model. The 1500 model has one that is wider than the rest and this is the one I am after.

Moss does not show it in there catalog and I am aware that Anglo parts has them , but shipping would cost much more than the part. Going to SF is out of the question after their horrible situation with my headliner. PS: It is fitted but with a whole lot of modifications and frustration. I am trying to locate one in Canada or the USA.
Gordon Harrison

Gordon, Clausager talks about this shelf on page 31 and as you say the 1500 shelf is deeper. However it takes the shape described by the rear shroud below the window line and the front shelf rail. I made a pattern out of stiff card for a hardboard copy finished with a vinyl covering. The body should give you the position of the cup and screw fixings. Time consuming but not too difficult and your guaranteed a good fit.

how did you bend the two corners down. Did you use steam, a press shape etc ??????
Gordon Harrison

Gordon, as far as I remember (its been about 6 years) I slightly scored the underside of the hardboard and gently bent it down. There's no need to have a really tight bend. I think I've seen model makers score a series of lines or grooves on the underside of sheet materials before bending. Steaming would also help. Try a test piece first and see if it works.

Gordon, this pic may help.
