MG MGA - MGA Day

Anyone going to the MGA Day at Charlecote Park on Sunday?
Lindsay Sampford

I would be interested but i didnt know anything about it, by the way where is charlecote park might be a nice run,
Vin
Vin Rafter

It's near Warwick, see the MGA register web site "events". http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccmga/events.shtml
Lindsay Sampford

Thanks Lindsey, ive had a look but it coinsides with an MG event at Harrogate whitch looks like it might be a more plesent drive (fickle or what)
Vin.
Vin Rafter

Hi Lindsay,

I'm planning to go on Sunday, if the weather is OK, as planning to take a picnic (and the wife).

Obviously, we wont be in the MGA, as it is some way off completion.

Chris Bond

hoping to get to the mga day on sunday with my still slightly dented car, still havent had it fixed since some kind person bumped the back wing in Settle on the north Yorks mga weekend. (it still looks ok from 3 out of four directions) Will have it sorted out in the winter probably as i am enjoying driving it too much to miss any good driving days.
I know three or four cars are coming down from my area, hopefully together.
It was a really enjoyable day last year, some amazing cars and really great people.
See you down there

Colyn, which way are you planning on going, ive looked and there seems to be a lot of motorway driving
(not my favorite).

Are you having a change of plan Vin? Go on, you know you want to! Harrogate can only be a few streets away from where you live; no challenge at all, so give your MGA a good stretch and come south. Lots of lovely old "A" roads between Yorkshire and Warwick, if everyone is on the motorway you'll have them to yourself!
Lindsay Sampford

Lindsay

Are dogs allowed? I am on my own this weekend, but unfortunately dog sitting my blind and deaf 17 year old Cocker Spaniel. Would like to do it, but not sure about the pooch.

Lindsey, Yes I think I am,If it is'nt raining to much, ive also had another look at the map so i wont have to do to much m/way stuff,I'll be the little fat bloke in the red one, oops! thats most of us, cheers

feel the same way about motorways vin, the easiest route for me is down the M1 then M69 past coventry then off onto some real roads for a bit.
I will have a look to see if i can find the best A road route, any suggestions?
colyn

You can't beat the strawberry flavoured ones Vin, much nicer than the vanilla or pistachio and that fudge definitely doesn't work!
I think most National Trust places allow dogs in the grounds Steve, give them a ring; you could always tell them it's a blind dog and you have to be there to guide it, if that confuses them enough you could get in free!
Lindsay Sampford

I hope to be there, weather permiting.
presumably you can leave when you want to,i.e. you don't have to stay for a set period.
Nigel Munford

I'd love to come along, if I am allowed out. I am assuming I dont need to book in advance - is it just turn up and pay on the door?
GrahamMV

As far as I can tell, you "just turn up and pay on the door" as you say Graham, but if you are a National Trust member you get in free. There is an advert in Safety Fast! but it's just a reproduction of the flyer you download from the MGA Register site.
Lindsay Sampford

Been looking for the best route down from S Yorkshire Vin.
I think i will do the 1st section on the M1 and M69, then leave the M69 at Jcn 1 turning SE onto the A5. After a couple of miles turn Rt onto the Fosseway B4056 and keep on it SE until below coventry and warwick. Turn RT onto the B4056 to Wellesbourne and then through Wellesbourne on the B4047 to Charlecote.
(Im assuming charlcote park is near charlcote!)
I used to use the Fosseway to get down to the Cotswolds when i was racing karts down at Little Rissington and it was an enjoyable drive even with a trailer on the back of the car.
Cheers

Colyn, isn't The Fosse Way the B4455 or has it been re-numbered since 2003? We're coming in on the A425, left onto the B4455 then right on the B4086 to Charlecote.
Lindsay Sampford

Colyn, ive looked at the map as well and that way looks about the best, but as daft as it may seem I may come off the M1 at jnk28 and go A38 Burton on Trent and A444 to Coventry hoping to pick up the A46 depending on traffic.
Vin.
by the way for my sins we live in Doncaster
Vin Rafter

Or even A444 to A5 to B4455 if that makes any sence,
Vin
Vin Rafter

Sorry Lindsay, you are right, the Fosseway is the B4455. It would have been a very quiet day in Charlecote if everyone had followed my directions!
I would blame my reading glasses but i made them myself, so is must be impending senility!

Wouldnt fancy driving through Coventry Vin, my son was at university there and i always found it a bit of a maze to navigate. my car runs fairly cool, 165 degrees on the move, but i start to worry in traffic and usually run with the heater on.

Amazingly I live in Doncaster too and i really love the place.
Will look out for you on sunday, my car is the lowered dark blue 1600 roadster with replica twin cam wheels and a distinctive dent on the rear left wing!
cheers

tried to upload a picture of my car so you know which one to avoid!
(its not me in the car its my daughter) and yes, she didnt get the looks from me!

How about doing it the Roman way Colyn! Doncaster, A1M (Great North Road), at Junc 34 onto the A614, A6097, A46 (Foss Way), Leicester ring road to B4114 through Littlethorpe, left on A5 then right on B4455 (Foss Way) all the way to the B4086 and turn right to Charlecote. I bet this is amusing our American friends, they can do 500 miles without making a left or a right! Weather still looks good for Sunday.
P.S. Don't they look good without bumpers; well from the front anyway!
Lindsay Sampford

Anyone driving up from the London area? I may need a push!
GrahamMV

would love to do the totally roman route lindsay but it would probably take 3 1/2 to 4 hours.
so i think i will have to be satisfied with doing the last 30 miles or so on the Fosseway and have more time to talk with you guys.
colyn
colyn firth

Colyn, Thanks for the coventry info, my second or third option now looks the way to go,(you may have gathered by now that I'm not the most decisive bloke in the world...or am I)car looks great by the way, If you take the bumpers off an A they look a bit like there speeding when they are stood still, cheers
Vin
Vin Rafter

Anyone take any photos of the day that they wish to upload, as I was unable to make it.

Thanks
Mark.
Mark Hester

hello mark, you missed a nice day I think there were over 60 cars,Im afraid my photos are pretty hopeless but Ill try to upload a few if I can, cheers Vin
Vin Rafter

Sorry the page is telling me that the photo file size is to large to upload and I dont know how to change it, (it's times like these when you realise you need a 12 year old in the house) Vin
Vin Rafter

Got these pictures of a very business-like Twin Cam, that's all I'm afraid.

And another...

Looks like a good day. Gutted I missed it but had last minute mother-in-law duties. Is it an annual event?
GrahamMV

Really enjoyed MGA day again, great turn out( someone said 70+ cars turned out)and a great venue. i tried to speak to everyone but only managed a dozen or so.
Some mind blowing cars there!
thanks chris for thinking my car was worth photographing, i was suprised to see it on this page. just glad you didnt take the rear view with bump on the back left wing.(maybe fitting bumpers would be a good idea!)
Chris also took a picture of me speaking to chris hoyle about his amazing car, i just happened to be passing when someone asked him "is is a twin cam?"
His reply was "sort of!"
I still have the bruise on my chest where my jaw dropped open when he opened the bonnet!
240bhp! we discussed how the car would handle at its top speed (my bet would be 150+mph???) and came to the conclusion that it would probably be best to either design and fit an air dam or if not, maybe just not try to find out what speed the front wheels would lift off!
Sorry i missed you vin, maybe you could email me so we can get together in doncaster sometime
colyn
colyn firth

Does anyone have any more photos of the twin cams that were there? I see a green one with black wheels.

Many Thanks
Mark.
