MG MGA - MGA seat foam too big
Hi, Just working on re-uphosltering my cars seats and I noticed that the foam that was supplied is about 1/4 inch wider than the wood bases. Do I need to cut down the foam to match the base or just stretch (manhandle) the leather a little more to make it fit. Thanks, John |

cutting it down using the wooden base as a template woks just fine, I used an ordinary bread knife to trim the foam when I did my seat bases years ago. |

Hi John when I did the seats in my Coupe (which I did 3 times before I got them right), I found the bottom seat foam to be too big where it fit into the mesh cradle. This resulted in me sitting too high and sitting ontop of the seat rather than in the seat. I trimmed the lower piece of the seat foam to the correct size and also reduced the depth of it so it fit the mesh cradle perfectly. I also messed about with the back of the seat a lot to get a little more lumber support by adding very thin foam padding. This took quite a while but the result was a good looking and comfortable seat. Andy |

Ditto Andy about the fit of the foam to the seat base. I had to use the breadknife to cut the foam to make it fit better in the centre recess. |

Same issue here. I'm 6'2" and the foam was too wide and tall. A serrated bread knife from the $1 store did the trick. I have seen cheap electric carving knives that may make the work go faster. |

You don't even need a cheap electric kinfe, you can use the Mrs good one as long as you only cut the foam,it will not hurt it. |
