Jerry Do you mean just glass. or glass/frame? Paul |

Just the frame Paul I need one for rechroming and then new glass inserted after this process. Thanks Jerry |

Jerry The reason I asked is that I do have a screen but no frame so I can't help you. I did the same as you are proposing a few years ago. I sent the frame away in bits and it came back restored with new screen fitted. I am very satisfied with the result and could look up the supplier if you wish? Paul |

sportscarmetalworks.com does recon frames |

With the prices these frames now fetch I am slightly surprised that no one has attempted to produce new ones, or is that extrusion cross-section all too difficult? Steve |

Thanks for your comments and help chaps very helpful. I guess that I was being very optimistic to pick up a frame. I am intending to have the frame upgraded by Ed Biddle from Malvern. Depending entirely upon the numbers Ed mentioned that the completion time is around 4-5 weeks. I use the car quite a bit and of course was hoping to pick up a used frame so that I could just send that to Malvern, use the A, replace the scree and frame and then sell the old frame/screen! It looks like a month plus without the A on the road! All the best Jerry * If you do come across anyone who wants to dispose of a frame then please advise! |

I was not impressed with the guy in Malvern who put my new glass in my restored frame few years ago. It wasn't a very good job, the corners of the frame did not line up neatly, and I had to get it redone by Bob West. I can't remember if Ed was his name but it was definitely in Malvern. |

Steve, it isn't uniform, so each side has to be made separately from the extrusion for the top and bottom. I would also suspect that being brass it can't be extruded easily. If the tapers on the screen sides could be dispensed with, then it would be a uniform cross section. I do have a spare rechromed one in store in the cellar, still in the wrapping. I believe Metal Mickey has them available too. The plan is to replace mine as the screen is delaminating in one corner, but the corners I have don't line up with the holes in the frame, and I haven't got round to ordering the bits from Todd Clarke that are supposed to be correct. I also need to order some side screen parts, so maybe I'll get to it soon. |

Jerry, I have an MGA roadster awaiting restoration in the shed. If you cannot find another screen frame I could probably let you "borrow" the frame in exchange for your old one when you have had this one refurbed - I assume yours is all OK, just needing chrome. Dave |

Thanks Dave That's a very kind offer which I would like to accept.Yes the chrome is the issue. I had a new screen fitted about 3 years ago. So as I understand it I would come down to you and collect the screen, have that refurbished and when that was completed. bring you may screen. I suggest that you contact me off-line then please e-mail me: jerrybirkbeck@btinternet.com Thanks again. Jerry |
