MG MGA - MGA957 BUL
| Hi all just checked motor ins. data base only to be shocked to see that an MGA I owned back in the early 70's seems to be insured, does anyone know this car , I lived in Plymouth, Devon at the time but it could be anywhere now as you can see it was not pretty even back then but I did only pay £250 for it gordon

Gordon, It may be worth contacting the MGA register of the MG car club, they seem to have a list of most cars. They usually have a list available at the Silverstone meeting and you can check through by registration number. Regards...John

Hi Gordon, It's not currently registered with DLVA http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ If you know the chassis number, you can write to them with £5. Cheers Mark.

Having said that this web site still shows it registered to an MGA https://www.mycarcheck.com/check/957BUL/ Cheers Mark.

OK Gordon, You've peaked my interest. I have never seen an MGA with dual side lamps up front. The amber lamps are new to me. Was this something that you added? Or was it a standard factory position to meet European stds? I don't recall seeing this in any of the "books". Chuck

Hi Chuck no they were on the car when I bought it a po had fitted them to improve visibilty, strange how it's noted as being insured and is on that other site but not on the DVLA site I tried checking with the MGA reg a long time ago and they had no trace I last saw it being used as a climbing frame at the back of some flats in Union St , Plymouth, anyone who knows Plymouth will know that area especialy if they were in the Navy, say no more, so I would be very suprised if it survived that part of it's life gordon

Hi all just found out from DVLA that the car is!!!! still active but of course they can't give me any details how annoying is that gordon

Gordon, I believe you can get DVLA to forward a letter to the current owner. cheers dan
Dan Smithers
HI Dan they told me to complete a V888 and see what they could do gordon

You were once able to have the DVLA pass on letters to the owner. But they have now scrapped this. However I did recently track down the second twin cam via this method. You just have to stick to your guns and keep ringing the DVLA. Once you have a reference number and paid your £5, then you will get a real phone number you can contact. They will say NO the first few times, but eventually you "Might" get someone more helpful and pass on a letter for you. Good Luck, you will need it Cheers Mark.
