MG MGA - MGA's in Eugene OR

Just a note to say that my daughter will be attending U of O in Eugene this fall but I won't let her take her 57 MGA. First years have to stay in the dorms but after that I may have to do some mighty arm wrastling to keep that MG in Santa Barbara. So, what is the MG scene in Eugene like and are there any reliable shops for repair work? Clubs? Please let me know.

David,
The NAMGAR GT 28 event was held in Welches, Oregon (outside Portland) several years ago. There were several hundred cars there. There is a large MGA organization there so I am sure there is someone local who could handle any problems. Have a good day!

David, NAMGAR shows an affiliated club in Portland. I'm sure they would have any information on MGA support in the Eugene area. I'd drop them a line and say hi.
Who knows, when she gets up into rain country that MGA with the side curtains might not look quite so good as it does in sunny Califorina. ;-)

Check out the Columbia Gorge MGA Club (CGMGAC) where you will find many MGA owners, and who have a great deal of MG maintenance experience between them. They run different events each month, and are a fun group of people. We know them well as we were at GT-28, and many of them were here for GT-32.

David-I am a Triumph guy that lives about 45 mi. from Eugene. There is a multi-marque British car club in Eugene(Emerald Empire Sports Cars) and at least 1 shop that specializes in British cars. At one time, Eugene was a mecca for sports cars. Your MGA will be in friendly territory. If you post your request on the MGB or MGC board, I am sure you will get a response from someone in Eugene

I had my 1957 MGA serviced by the MG dealer in Eugene when I was in school there. You're probably in better hands today; they filled my steering rack with grease! The Columbia Gorge MGA club is a great resource, though Portland is a bit far from Eugene.

There is also the Willamette MG Club in Salem.

Many thanks to all who responded. Rain and this MG have never met. I still need to put the hood on and buy side curtains. or rebuild her original ones. Another project. As I said the first year is no car anyway. After that... who knows. I will follow up on the suggestions. Thanks.

Will she have a garage? Has she been rust-proofed? (The car, that is.)My 1958 MGA was completely rusted out in the rockers and lower fenders when my cousin bought it as an 8 year old car in Portland in 1966. Both my 1957 MGAs were also rusted out when I bought them as 9 or 10 year old cars. My second 1957 MGA also had mushrooms growing in the floorboards. Rain is hard on these cars.

Mushrooms growing on the floorboards? OK, She must have a garage before I let it out of Santa Barbara. It is totally rust free at this point.
