MG MGA - MKII Front Turn Signal Lens

Looking for some opinions here. I got my 62 MKII on the road some time ago, and in a rush to get the car inspected, I installed some not quite original front turn signals; in fact, they were an IH truck application, but they didn't look to bad. 30 Years later my short term solution is about to be corrected. It appears that the 62's bound for the U.S. used a clear lens , while prior years and UK based deliveries were amber/clear. I've seen each used here, so does it matter whether clear or amber/clear is used? Thanks, Nick.

I went with amber/clear lens for my MKII. The reason was back in 1986-87 they seemed to be easier to get than all clear. The second reason which may be more first than the second. When I was in high school a friend had a 57 Ford Fairlane. He painted his clear lens amber to "be cool". The cops pulled him over and gave him a ticket, saying something to the affect they weren't original and that was "against the law". I thought the amber/clear looked better in 87 and a lot more cooler.. so I bought the amber/clear lens for my MkII.
Do what you want..If it is perfection you want go with the clear lens. If you want to be cool, go with the amber/clear lens.

Nick,
My car had the amber lens on both front and back. There should be no problem either way you choose. Have a good day!

My understanding is that the UK traffic laws required the white/amber combination while the USA was clear. For my MKII tail lamps their is also the option of using an amber lens in place of the red for the turn signal portion. I use the red/amber in the rear and the amber/white in the front. I like to think that it gives my turn indicators a little more visability with other drivers as they are expect to see amber turn signals on modern cars. As far as I have been able to find out either choice is street legal. At least here in Illinois.

You might want to check with NAMGAR, but I have never heard of anyone loosing points for having the amber turn signal lenses.

Thanks for all of the comments. I was leaning toward the amber/clear and now have another mini-project-to-do in a few weeks!//nk
