MG MGA - Monza type fuel caps
A few years ago, I purchased a couple of Monza type fuel caps from the UK to put on MGA's. They were attached to the tank filler extension by cutting off the original cap attachment end, and bolting on a "threaded" ring using an allen key. I can't seem to find these on-line anymore, and most have the threaded rings to be welded on. Has anyone seen the "bolt on" types advertised? |

Gary There's these but probably a bit too large OR It's no biggy really to solder the adapter ring to the filler tube (off the car)if you can't find the screw on version https://sydneymustangparts.com.au/shop/fuel-system/gas-caps/racing-style-pop-open-fuel-cap/ Also- You can get a kit to fit the Monza cap direct to m/cycle tanks--you might be able to use one of those maybe---- https://www.triumphperformanceparts.com.au/monza-gas-capmonza-gas-cap willy |

Brown and Gammon appears to have, although it says low stock, and not sure what the shipping would be https://www.ukmgparts.com/product/mga-midcat-15-submga6-fuel-tank-pipes/2-inch-monza-cap-mocal-1300 |

Sorry not sure if its the bolt on one, or not |

As William mentioned, you should be able to find a Monza style cap at some motorcycle supply houses, especially those which deal with custom parts. Pictured is the one that I have which came from such a shop here in the U.S.

Hi all Try Vintage Supplies https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/search?query=Monza Good luck Ted |

Thanks for the help sofar. As far as I can see, most of the ones listed require an extension to be welded/brazed to the filler neck. The ones I have bought in the past have a simple brass ring that is allen keyed to the neck (after trimming the neck). |

Gary Would it be possible to drill and tap a couple of grub screw threads into a solder on ring--just a thought |

Triumph used a magnetic cap on the early (1969) TR6 that works well and fits the MGA connecting hose. I use one on the race car as even if the safety wire did somehow come off, the cap will lock back on when it bounces down again, something that the latched spring loaded caps can't do. ![]() |

Hmm- yeah, saw that one from Classic Cars a while back but there's no mention of any grub screws, it looks the same as the solder on jobs unless that brass ring has a step in it to fit up to the rear edge of the filler neck --?? |

William, you are right. I don't know where I got the idea of the grub screws from. I have one of these caps on my Coupe, so took it off to check. The threaded brass piece is a tight fit on the neck, so no need for epoxing, glueing etc. |

All good, as long as it works eh.--good price too They've got quite a range of other interesting stuff there by the looks of it as well Cheers willy |
