MG MGA - Mysterious Mga Coupe Door Parts

I know that the square ones mount on the outer door edge just below the vent window. But I cannot figure out where the rectangle ones go. Would one of the Coupe members , who has these installed please supply a picture showing the mounting position and direction that they should be installed.

Thanks Gordon

I haven’t seen these before. Was your door fairly original when you dismantled it?

The square ones. I didn’t have parts with the turned up edges but I made similar plates to spread the load where the long barrel nuts that fix the quarter light bear onto the door skin.

The rectangular ones. Look like aluminium so must be something to do with the door skin. Perhaps where it fits to the rear of the window frame channel.

I am the second owner of my totally origonal car since 1968 and it was I that took it apart and rebuilt it. I have kept these parts all this time , but now I am detailing my car, I wish to put these on
the correct manner.
The pictures needs to be rotated , as the chrome part is the window frame on the drivers side. The hole on the door frame has always been there. I imaging that the window frame must be loosened a bit and then the square part will slip under the frame and be attached ( as it was before ) by a rivet. Yes the parts are aluminum.

The rectangle parts , I do not know where they go but I thing they somehow are mounted at the other end of the window frame.

As you can see the parts have the origional paint color on them. My car is painted Island Green

Not the best pictures in a cramped garage and poor light but ...

As Gordon said, the small one at the front edge of the door, on the angle up to the window frame.
The longer one at the rear top below the 'pyramid' finisher.

Not the best pictures - in a cramped garage and poor light - but ...

Fantastic, mystery solved and I can proceed to installing my parts. Many many thanks to all. PS: Mt Gibson your pictures are perfect.

Your aluminium parts were once part of the door skin so I suppose you will have to stick them where they belong and make good with filler.

They are not part of the door skin, they are separate pieces. They are attached with small rivets, hence the holes. No filler required.

The damaged holes on those examples suggest that the rivets have been roughly drilled out.

As far as I know they would be attached before painting, they are natural aluminium, not chromed etc.

They aren't listed in the SPL, probably because they would already be on a "Door Assembly" supplied as a spare part. And who would ever be expected to need replacements for those pieces ? The cars weren't expected to be undergoing restorations 60 years later.

Yes , mine were painted Island Green , which is the origional colour of my Mga Coupe.

Gordon,
Looks like you have this solved. Here are a couple of pictures. The one of the long piece is the under side showing the two rivets. The one of the smaller piece is like the picture Jim Gibson posted.

Hi Gordon.
Yes, they are separate parts rivetted onto the door skin. Mine were so badly worn that I made new ones from some scraps of aluminium I had lying around the garage during my rebuild. I painted them separately and rivetted them on after the doors had been resprayed. Regards David
