MG MGA - Mystery Fastener
Found this today on the garage floor about 2 feet in front of the MGA front bumper. Probably not related, but since we are about to venture out for a 4,000+ mile trip to GT-47, I thought I'd check to see if anyone can identify it. Note that it has only a knurled top, so it would be something hand tightened only. - Ken PS: My original title of this post was "Mystery Screw", but I decided to change it to avoid any bawdy comments :~) ![]() ![]() |

Not MGA. |

Tend to agree with Gary- It's a fairly course thread,-which you usually see when something's screwed into plastic----? |

Number plate fixing screw onto the back plate? I think mystery screw with a knurled knob would have been entirely acceptable! Steve |

I must admit that I had to bite my tongue to prevent myself from posting something totally inappropriate. :^)
So, Thanks Steve, for helping me out here! :^) This reminds me of the time we were on an MGA Weekend Tour a few years ago and I found myself chewing on a smaller, stainless steel version of that screw whilst eating my breakfast. Not wanting to cause a fuss, I went over to the hotel chef with my breakfast plate to quietly make a complaint about this. The chef apologised but asked if wanted the screw back, I said no and went to sit down with a new breakfast, feeling like I had done my duty in sorting out the hotel kitchen. I was only a few days later during a dental check up that I found that a temporary steel screw had fallen out of my new dental implant and mixed itself in with the sausage I was eating! Oops!! Colyn I had one of those unscrew as well. At first I thought the entire implant had fallen out. Steve |

Thanks everyone - I just had to check as I always get a bit paranoid before taking the A on a long trip. My wife thinks it came from a lighting fixture - the type of screw that is typically one of several along a rim that holds a glass globe in place. Oh, and as for Steve's suggestion of the title "mystery screw with a knurled knob" I think that potentially would have led to even more lurid comments (I'm looking at you, Colyn :) Best, - Ken |
