MG MGA - New fuel tank

My fuel tank has come to the end of its life. There are a number of options out there: mild steel, mild steel coated or stainless steel. Any suggestions as to which would be best.
John Follett

Changed my fuel tank a couple of years ago John, I fitted the Moss mild steel tank which has turned out to be first class.

It is exactly the right size, it is an exact replica of the original factory MGA tank and is beautifully finished.

It still looks absolutely brand new a couple of years on.

The one it replaced was actually made of stainless steel, it was only about 8 years old but in many places along the welded seams, it had "corroded"!

Incredibly, it appeared to have been welded together with mild steel welding rods which had naturally rusted through!

So I would recommend that you go with the Moss mild steel tank.

Totally agree with Colyn. Excellent bit of kit. Have a look at my site. Scroll down to the picture of the tank and read the very interesting information leaflet: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/index.htm

Also totally agree about quality of Moss tank. I think it is of US manufacture. In the discumentatation they are clearly very proud of this tank unlike earlier one from everyone including themselves.

Thanks guys. Moss it will be!

Moss tank received! However no accompanying documents so I guess it is a different version.

Point of caution-I did order a pair of straps but have found they didn't fit! Too short front to back and there was no way they would fix to the chassis fixing points. Luckily my old straps were good enough to re use.

You did it come in a cardboard box with tailored polystyrene packaging? This is way mine came with document.

Ditto what Paul said. Part number in the UK is AHH5121.

My link above shows the packing etc.

My mistake!! Found the documentation hidden at the bottom of the box.
