MG MGA - New Tire Advice
The U.S.-made Yokohama Avids (P185-65/15) on my MGA are now 12 years old. These were pretty good tires and although they still have lots of tread, they're a little too old and need to be changed before running to Louisville in June. I understand new Yokohamas don't rate too well. What's a good tire these days in that size for an A that will run all day at 75 or 80 mph? thanks, Tyler ![]() |

Kumhos or Vredsteins seem to be a popular choice. I've always preferred Dunlops but they stopped making the "A" size a few years ago. Good to hear that you are chucking the 12 year old tires; its a proper safety move. |

I put Vredesteins on my "A" a couple of years ago. I have been pleased with their grip. |

Vredesteins are available through Summit Racing with free shipping |

I buy Michelin ZX tyres from Longstone Tyres in the UK..they ship Worldwide at very reasonable rates. |

In a similar thread about 6 years ago the Firestone F560 was a popular choice. Got them on mine. I think they are still available. Steve |

I put the Firestones on mine 4 years ago after that thread Steve. They have been good with plenty of grip. |

You can still get the same size tires in reasonable performance grade from either Sumitomo or Yokohama http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=185%2F&ratio=65&diameter=15&rearWidth=255%2F&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17&zip-code= I use the Yokos on my coupe and although little wear, I really should do what you are doing - replace them due to age. |
