MG MGA - New Toy
I just picked this up tonight. Overall, it seems in great shape. I have the window (and gasket), but won't know what kind of shape it's (the window) in until I get it cleaned up. Does anyone know if this is supposed to be lined? ![]() |

Looks like it might be a Parish Plastics top: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/top/top123.htm You may be able to get parts for it from Smooth Line: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/top/top140.htm http://www.smoothline.com/classic_sports_cars_MGs.php |

Larry, You can improve the look of your new toytop by having it vinyl covered. I found it a relatively cheap improvement. See photo. Barry ![]() |

I have also glued black carpet to the underside of mine - very cosy in the winter. Barry |

My Parish Plastics hard top (bought new) came with dark grey with white flecks carpet glued to the underside. |

Looks more like a Universal Laminations top to me, the window is much bigger than the one Barney shows as the Parish top |

Barry, -- Your picture does not look like a Parish Plastics top. Vinyl cover, position of seams, etc, may not have the same visual effect on the Parish design. |

Barney, You are right, certainly not a Parish. Mine was made in Australia and has the moulded line front to back, shows off the seams. It has been in place for 12 years and only needs a coat of shoe blacking each year. Larry the contact glue I used on the carpet has held out 12 years. Barry |

Barry, -- Another aftermarket hardtop not yet accounted for? Do yon know who made it, and when? Any more information? More pictures? |

Barney, These are quite common here in Aus. I found this one 30 years ago when I bought a load of spares when I needed a used panel. I haven't a clue who made it, but it fits snugly. I got sick of the 'crazing' in the surface of the gelcoat so had the vinyl fitted. Very professionally done and very good quality material to last 12 years. I made and fitted a new hood-top rail, held it in place with two strips of stainless steel, and also used stainless steel screws. ![]() |

A picture with the top on the car. I'm thinking of painting it to match the car, but I see some crazing of the old paint. Is it likely new paint will craze also?

Ok, I'm not going to paint it to match the car now, I'll match the finished car color. 'Cause I know someone's going to comment. |

Larry, I will say that your car looks astonishingly like my car! Even down to the paint. |

So far I have found red, black and Glacier blue underneath the darker blue repaint. Almost patriotic. Let's see some pictures, Mike, misery loves company. |
