MG MGA - Not a MGA question, but need help

Hi,

I have a 1957 MGA that runs great with no problems, but I am having problems with my 1966 T-bird, yes I know it's a Ford. This is a great forum and I was wondering if anyone knows of a forum like this one where I can ask a question. The problem is no brake lights or turn signals, not a good thing.

Thanks for any help, Lyle

Lyle-
Most American cars use the same filaments for both. Could be a fuse, or a single bad connection. Get a diagram. The functions of the eight-legged box on the MGA are built into the TS switch on 'Murican stuff.

Lyle,
My first car was a 66 Mustang and I had a miserable time with the same issues until I traced the problem down to a worn out turn signal switch in the column. The brake circuit also went thru the column wiring. How is the V8?

Lyle,
Was curious, so I googled a little. Seems it had sequential turn signals with a motor driven cam switch to do the sequencing. Like the MGA 1500 it had a relay to switch between turn signals and brake lights. Since the relay is the common point between brake and turn lights I would suspect that or something near it. Here is a page I found with a wiring diagram and info about troubleshooting. http://www.tbirdranch.com/sequencer.html

PS if you go up one page on that www.tbirdranch.com site they do have a forum that seems active, but nowhere near as active as this MGA forum.

Thanks for the help. SJS, the V8 is running great and is still fun to drive. People keep asking me to sell it but it's not for sale. It's just to much work to build another one. I did have to replace the starter this summer. My son installed a supercharger on his '73 MGB V8 last year. It's pretty cool, check it out, google bill Jacobson supercharged MGBV8. I used to be able to beat him out at car shows, but not anymore since he installed the supercharger. He had to make everything to install it on the 215 Buick. Big job, lots of time and money.

Jeff, Thanks for the info I do know about the T-bird ranch, and you are right their forum is not as active as this one and that's why I'm looking for a better one. I did send them an email asking for help. I replaced the old sequential unit with a new electronic one a couple years ago and it has been working fine, and hope it's not that. I think the brake relay is built into the electronic unit but I'm not sure.

I do suspect it could be the turn signal switch. I am waiting to hear from the T-bird ranch. Thanks again guys. Lyle
