MG MGA - 'O' no
Hey all, I'm still at the rear axle and brake stage. I ordered the rear axle "O" rings from both Moss, (121-400), and Scarborough Fair, ((H41A). They are both too big and the one from S.F. is too thick also. Has anyone sourced the correct ones lately? If so, from whom? Thanks, Tom |

"Oh no"! Moss has it screwed up AGAIN! I certainly hope you gave Moss a phone call immediately so they have a change to fix it. This problem seems to come and go. I had them all straightened out several years ago when it was determined that one size fits all (if you use the smaller one). After all that, I can't believe they have messed up this part again. Gone back to no incoming inspection I guess. Sorry I can't answer your question, but all of the details for correct size are here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/rearaxle/ra103.htm |

Tom, I too had this problem. If I recall, the 1600 rear axle O rings are too big for the 1500 rear axle. You do not say which axle you have. Please tell Cecilia at SF about your problem. She should send you FOC replacements immediately. Kelvin Dodds of MOSS is probaly already on it as he reads this BBS. Peter. |

Hey All, I called S/F and they are sending me new, smaller "O" rings. My car is a 1600, wire wheel. As usual, your site is great Barney. I left a voice mail message at Moss and they returned it on my voice mail. They said that their part was usable but I disagree. We will see what arrives from S/F. Just another, time consuming, bump in the road. :) Tom |

What are the dimensions of the current Moss part, thickness and diameter? |
Barney Gaylord |
Hey Barney and all, the O.D. of the "step" that the "O" ring sits in is 3.41". The A/S piece is .139 and about 3.6" in diameter. It will not fit into the hub. The Moss unit, .112 and about 3.5" in diameter, just too big. I can't get it to stay on the hub, but almost. I have obtained an 'O' ring locally that measures .10 and is about 3.3 O.D. My thinking is to stretch the local unit around the lip on the axle and insert the axle into the hub/rear end. Good plan? Thanks, Tom |

Hooray! I froze the Moss "O" rings and they worked! The rear axle is done without the need for the speedy sleeves. Thanks to all. Now to clean up the shop :( Floor boards are next. Regards, Tom |

Just replaced carrier bearings, got o-rings from S/F, fit just fine. Marvin |

Hey Marvin, my car is a wire wheel 1960 vintage. S/F "O" rings were, (are), the larger size. I am sending her the "O" rings back with the original, square ones that came out of the car. It is not so much the money as it is the hope to help a future restorer. Regards, Tom |

Tom, You won't know if you need a speedy sleeve until you have driven the car quite a few miles. Hope those O rings won't pop out when they get hot. The MOSS part is definitley too big. Peter. |
