MG MGA - Old men behaving badly!
A couple of photos from our recent Observed Section Trails (OST) competition. Rules are you can go as slow as you like as long as you keep moving and don't hit a stake. You can carry a passenger (bouncer). Course is about 100 metres long with about 25 gates (number stakes). Course gets progressively harder. Sadistic judges throw buckets of water on the turns before comp starts. Spectators and other competitors jeer or cheer from the sidelines. Overall winner was prewar J3 (short wheel base, narrow nobbly tires, supercharged), MGA fair reasonably in this comp.![]() |

Yes that's how we play with our Land Rovers in Trials event (more of an English thing than US though) and their tends to be a bit more off camber and undulation when they are designed fro Land Rovers . It is usually the shortest and narrowest wheel based vehicles that have the advantage but super low gearing help too. |

Old men never behave badly - the world just fails to understand us!! Regards Roger |

Fantastic Mike! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Even more amazing that a car made over seventy years ago can be highly competitive, let alone win! Mind you, roads were like that back then (at least around here!) Neil |

Great pictures Mike. Reminds me of some of the places my friends and I used to take my MG 40 years ago. Old logging roads, hay fields, orchards, etc. Ken |

The great leveller in these events are tyres (tires). Club competition rules require us to use the same set of tyres at every event during the year be it sprints, hill climbs, motokhanas on asphalt surfaces to dirt events like this OST. Mike |

A rough looking bunch if I ever saw one! The red jackets do hide the blood nicely. Ken |
