MG MGA - Original Wiper Rubbers

Does anyone know where I can get the original type of wiper rubbers.

i.e. without all those plastic adapters.

Thanks
Mark

Perhaps a Photo of what you are looking for would help, there's no bits of plastic on the ones I have

Best photo I could find from ebay.

I don't have the originals in front of me.

Basically the rubber goes into a thin stainless steel split holder thing

Mark,
The wiper blades I bought last year from Scarborough Faire had no plastic only metal.

I always buy the complete wiper blade too - genuine TEX type easily obtainable at shows at around £15 a pair.

Hi Mark
Different subject.
I am told that you are the expert that can help me out. I am trying to identify my MGA. The s/n apparently does not match what I am told the car is. Please have a look at my thread with Steve on Identification of an MGA.
thanks

Hi Steve,

I was hoping to refurb my originals with new rubbers but this does not appear rubbers are available separately.

Whole wipers seem cheap enough but my samples are in Australia, so which one's do I order 250mm (10 Inches)?.... Roadster

Cam, I see the Tex one's on the web here:

Wrong person to ask. I have a cut down screen so long since forgotten.

I'm told by a good friend that the original wiper blades were Lucas rainbow which now sell on eBay for large sums due to their art teco style

Barney could use a page on this topic

Rainbow is right. Okay, so I made a web page for it. The research was interesting. There was a change of part number for wiper blades and arms a little less than one year into production. 9-1/2 inch arms and 8 inch chrome blades for the later. So far no idea how the earlier parts were different. Currently not much on eBay. New page is here:

Barney-
Put this on your page.

From Lucas Master Catalogue, 1946-1960:
Arm,
56-57, LH 745084, (9", LH crank, 15 deg);
RH 745075 (9", RH crank, 15 deg)
(I have a suspicion that above LH & RH location designations are a mislist for "LH drive & RH drive!)

LH drive, later 57-60 745083 (9.5", LH 15deg crank)
RH drive, later 57-60 745082 (9.5", RH 15deg crank)

(crank being the bend at the end when you hold the arm pointed up in front of you. Is 0, 10, or 15 deg, L or R)

Blade,
56 738724 (9"); 57-60 737910 (8")

The (almost) half circle end fixing is referred to as "Wrist Action"

The rubber with backing plate is 738736 for 9" blade 738724, 737919 for 8" blade 737910

"Rainbow" is the name of the blade, from what you get when they smear stuff all over the screen!

PS: I discovered on my Mazdas that wiping more glass area with longer blades is not nearly as useful as having more unit pressure by having shorter blades, probably why they changed these. Ideally, you want an arm that is half as much longer as the blade is shorter - you don't look through the bottom of the sweep anyway. Plus, they don't have as much tendency to blow off the screen at speed in a crosswind.

FR Millmore

Perhaps the "crank angle" needs a bit more clarification. If you stand in front of the car holding the arm as it would be installed, then LH crank would be for a RHD car, as the arms park to the driver's side of the car. Does that sound correct? If you look at the arm from the driver's seat, the crank angle would appear to go the other way.
Barney Gaylord

Indeed.

"The expression "Right Hand" and "Left Hand" is as viewed from the driver's seat."
End quote, clearly applied to both position and crank.

They show the screen side of the lower arm, below the part with the end "crank" illustrations; they just left a gap, no break lines as would be conventional - visually it appears as two separate pictures. I hadn't really looked at the bottom of the page. That's partly because I forgot which side they are "supposed to park on", and otherwise because I always thought the wipers would be better if they parked away from the driver, as they do on cars with the wipers offset to the driver's side - they sweep better that way. In fact, this discussion has been going on since the cars were new, and we sometimes used to fit reverse cranked wipers and reset the park position. Between that and the "universal adjustable" arms, and the cars with plain wrong arms, it all got pretty confusing.
