MG MGA - Our club's first tech session.

Thought I would post a few photos of our first "Tri County British Car Club" tech session....Our club is new, having only started in June, but already has almost 60 members, representing 34 cars...Everything from MG's to Rolls Royce.....
Our first tech session went well, especially since my car was the "victim"....
I managed not only to get my flasher problem fixed, but also to get my carbs tuned.....

I would like to make a couple of links to your club on my MGA web site (MGAguru.com) and on our local MG club web site (ChicagolandMGclub.com). Do you have contact information other than Facebook? Not everyone will find your Facebook page, as some people are downright allergic to Facebook. Will there be regular meetings? And where? Hwy 76 is rather vague.

Since we have no dues, we do not have a web site....
We do have an email address....

tricountybritishcarclub@yahoo.com

Right now we are meeting on the last Sunday each month, at Brother's Willow Ranch Restaurant, in Young Harris, Georgia....
We are going to vote as to whether to continue meeting through the Winter, or stop with this meeting, and start again in the Spring...(Don't know yet).
Next meeting is Oct. 27th, at 12:45....
The restaurant sets aside parking for our cars (we give them an advance count), and we have our lunch meeting in a private dining room.
Here's a shot of some of the 20 cars at the last meeting....

Nice Ed! Thats how we started the Boston Area MG Club... Grass roots with no modern technology! You will find that you will eventually need to add all the modern acutroments. You should be in for a treat meeting lotts of new friends! Enjoy yourself!

Congratulations on the start of another Club dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of the British car. I enjoyed your photographs. Our Canberra MG Car Club does tech days as well - popular, so good at engaging the members.

I was struck by the width of the parking bays at the restaurant - I guess they must also have to accommodate your common SUVs and large sedans. Down here we see these shrinking in width as owners attempt to fit ever more cars into a given parking area.

Good luck with it all.

Thanks for the good wishes.....
Regarding the parking area, what you don't see are all the cars parked facing the other way.....
We are lucky that the restaurant is so accomodating...Good food and service, too!

Ed,
How did they fix the flasher problem?
Peter.

Thanks for asking....
I had brought up bulb numbers in a previous thread, but didn't get a satisfactory reply....
I knew something was amiss, but didn't know what....
When I got to the tech session, someone asked me what bulbs I was using on the car....
I knew that the front bulbs were probably right, but questioned the rears, as they were different from each other, and from the fronts...So I thought one of them was probably wrong....(They were what was on the car when I got it)
Anyway, I decided to put an ohm meter on the rear bulbs, and found that they were both about 2.5 ohms resistance....
When I checked the front bulbs, they were both .6 ohms resistance...THAT is when I had my epiphany!
The two rear bulbs were both the wrong ones.....
Turns out that all 4 bulbs should be #1156....
Using Ohm's law , shows that lowering the resistance , raises the current...My problem wasn't too much current, it was too little current.
As soon as we put two #1156 bulbs in the sockets, the flasher, that I thought was dead, came to life!
Problem solved.
The old Special Forces motto, "K.I.S.S.", is still true..."KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID"! (DOH!)
