MG MGA - Outer sill

Evening all
I am in the process of rebuildng my inner sills, sill plates, rockers etc. The new rockers I have (Kilmartin here in Aus and very nice too) have a countersunk hole in the forward end. The old, rusted inner sills also have a hole about 3/4 inch in diameter that seems to line up with the one in the rocker. I'm not sure what this hole is for. I thought it might be for a countersunk fixing screw, but now I think it might be for drainage. Can anyone tell me?
I'v attached a pic.
Thanks
Matthew

Matt, I believe your assumption is correct. It also serves as an access point, for the folk who live in a seriously wet and salty environment, to apply preparations such as Waxoil to avoid rusting.

It's for a screw.

thanks Barry and Dominic
Dominic, if it's for a screw, what does it attach to? I can't see why the rocker should have one screw up front when it is fixed to the A and B pillars.
Cheers

Matthew,
On both my Coupe and Raodster the hole is open. I am in the process of doing the same repair to a friends Coupe and would like to know how accurate the Kilmartin rocker panels are compared to origional. I used their panels on my Healey resto and was very satisfied with their products. Thanks and have a good day!

Matt, The sill is welded in place, no need for a screw. I'm sure the hole is open.

John, I have used Kilmartin panels in 5 restorations and have had excellent results each time. I have used rocker sills, outer sills, dogleg rear guard and front guard replacement bottom sections - they are very true to original shape.

Many years ago John Kilmartin needed repair sections for his old Healy, they were not available in Australia so he constructed his own. And the rest is history.

Highly recommended. Barry

Thanks everyone
I guess I'll leave it open.
John, while I haven't fitted the rockers properly yet, they are beautifully made and seem to be a perfect fit. John Kilmartin was vey helpful and great to deal with, fast delivery. I would also highly recommend his products.

Just as an aside, the outer sill is supposed to be ever so slightly curved, not straight as most aftermarket suppliers make them. Roughly speaking, when viewed from above, the centre point of the outer sills leading edge is about 1/4" proud of the two ends of the sill to follow the overall curve of the car and door - anal I know....!
