MG MGA - Pictures of '58 A I'm checking out
Hi all, in regards to the earlier thread about a 58 I'm looking at to buy, I thought I'd upload some pictures of it to get some opinions on panel fit, etc. I understand that it's difficult to determine paint quality with pictures, but I'd appreciate an feedback you have to offer. My camera has put more blue into the green colour than there should be. http://picasaweb.google.com/91jm1na/1958MGA# |

Nice fit on the trunk (boot) lid. Looks like some bubbling along the bead in some of the shots, indicating some age, but otherwise a nice paint job. You could do worse ! |

Body work looks to have held up quite well - and it has a finishing strip in place on the sills and wing bottoms! Just check out those floorboard rails , A and B post sections and chassis - especially around battery holders - good luck - Cam |

This comment is only applicable if you buy the car. The SU carburetters need to be checked. One plunger has a plain cap and one has a hole and the letter "O". Both SU's need to be checked to see if they have the air vent drilling in the web on the piston chamber neck. An SU must have a vent in the cap OR in the web, but not both. See image: Also see next post about letter "O". ![]() |

Regarding the letter "O" on one plunger cap. Both SU's should be checked by measuring the length of the plunger piston. It must be the same on each carburetter. See image. ![]() |

Thanks for that info! Definitely something to check if I get the car inspected. cheers Ron |

Ron A small magnet will separate the body from the bondo. It won't work on door, boot, and bonnet skins (aluminum)but it will tell you something about fender skirts, sills, etc. Pretty paint! Good luck. |
