MG MGA - pneumatic traficator switch contact piece

I purchased a pneumatic turn indicator switch, but one of the legs on the brass contacts inside has broken at the jog that mates with the cam (if you have never taken one apart, that will be a confusing statment).

Do I have to fabricate this part, or are they available somewhere?

Thanks.

That's the most common failure and strangely (as well as unfortunately) the rebuild kits are no longer available unless someone has started offering them again since I last checked a couple years ago.

I may have one in my graveyard box, will have a look later tonight.

Maybe I'm lucky, but my original switch has lasted 53 years and 383,000 miles without breaking a contact arm. I have heard of a few breaking, but I don't think it is a chronic problem. There should be enough used part around to satisfy the replacement market. (I don't think I want to know where or how you bought the broken one).

Sorry, don't have one

Sorry, can't help you there. But they mostly break at the plastic knob where they attach to the dash. So one with the inside intact shouldn't be hard to find.

I have a small pile of switches with broken contacts. I'd say you were lucky, Barney! Or maybe these switches were owned by people who used their turn indicators a lot more than you do.

Steve,

Send me one of the parts you have and I can use it to graft a new leg onto mine! Are you willing? Trade?

Let me know.

Thanks.

I've gutted a few of them to repair others, and probably only have a couple left now that aren't functioning. Unfortunately they will not have any contacts or cam in them, as this is the most common part to fail.
Steve S

If anyone has a broken trafficator they'd like to sell so I can scavenge the parts, please email me! Thank you!
