MG MGA - Pop-up aerial (antenna) doesn't

Anyone have a pop-up aerial, the manual type with a key that goes in the side? I think this is a British design from the late 60's. I have a friend with a 70's B that has one fitted, and the local MG shop pushed the aerial in - now he can't get it to release and pop-up. (He had been keeping it slightly up.)
Any advise on how to release it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter.

You put the key in and turn slightly as you lift

Hi Dominic,
This model has a flat thin key that goes into a slot in the side of the mount, and it is not possible to twist it. It feels like there is a spring inside the slot which is possibly holding the top of the aerial.

Peter,

My Elf had one of those antennas and I finally released it with thin blade probing around the antenna tip. I am sure with the proper key it is easy but it can be released with some effort.

I just don't lock down the antenna any more.

See you in Reno...

Not sure exactly what you mean by the slot in the side of the mount. Very common here are the type where the key goes in from the top and you "bend" the key to "lock" into the slot in the top of the aerial, then you can lift the mast out of the housing. Like everyone else I never push mine all the way down to save having to carry the key or get a screwdriver! But if it does get pushed right in it comes back up ok, albeit with a bit of fiddling sometimes.

OK, I have found the type to which you refer. So ignore my previous post.

So I suppose you can keep fiddling, buy another one

get a cheap "standard" one

Or a fancy electric one
